Choose Retirement-Travel to Enrich Your Life

Retirement-travel can be to fulfill a life-long dream or simply a way to get away from the day to day routine. Yes, even retired people need to get away. Retirement travel is also a great way to reconnect with family and friends or to make new friends. It can also be a way to find that perfect retirement destination.

The development of new social relationships with people of all ages and in different settings is important to maintain our mental health. Travel is a great way to develop relationships with multiple generations and different circles of people.

To be effective in providing a satisfying and relaxing experience, the purposes of your vacation trip should include stress relief and happiness. Planning the trip should be a part of the fun and not a source of stress.

One way to provide some assurance of a relaxing and rewarding travel experience is to use the services of a professional travel or tour guide agency or club, such as:

  • RV groups or motorcycle clubs sponsored by the RV and motorcycle manufacturer.
  • Alumni associations and fraternities/sororities organize group vacation trips for members. If you are not on the mailing list, give them a call.
  • Warehouse clubs such as Costco or Sam's offer discounted travel and vacation packages.
  • Service clubs and fraternal organizations actively promote and facilitate travel to national and international conventions and functions for their members.
  • Religious organizations and theme clubs of all kinds provide organized travel and vacation packages to both national and international destinations

No matter what will be facing you when you return home from a vacation or week end getaway, your trip and time away should enrich your life and have a positive impact on your happiness.

Reasons for travel vary with each individual. Your retirement-travel goals might be to spend a restful week on the beach at Siesta Key on the West Coast of Florida. Mine might be to enjoy the rigors of attending a primitive rendezvous of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.

The following are some other reasons to take a vacation:

  • To widen our perspective and acquire new skills or experiences (like traveling to another part of the world and learning the language of that country).
  • To provide services to others in less privileged areas or in areas that have suffered some type of disaster. Organizations such as the Red Cross or Operation Blessing certainly could use volunteers and you would gain more than you give.
  • Meet new people and form new friendships in other areas of the country or world.
  • Having a new adventure like rafting down the Colorado river or some tamer stream
  • Enhance your knowledge of the culture and customs of different parts of this country or those of another country.

Whatever your reasons are, your retirement-travel should provide some fun and relaxation. It should also provide some personal growth by extending yourself in some physical or spiritual way.
