A Prayer-of-Gratitude - Satisfy Ten Preconditions
Every prayer should be a prayer-of-gratitude. Giving thanks to GOD with a joyful heart can be a very powerful force in your life. It is a self-directed activity. You have to choose to be grateful. Give thanks to GOD for all that you have and for those who have been kind and supportive through the storms in your life. Develop an attitude of gratitude with a daily prayer-of-gratitude and thanksgiving.
All prayers, should begin with praise for GOD and recognition of who He is. King Solomon, on his knees with hands spread out toward heaven, said “O Lord, the GOD of Israel, there is no GOD like You in heaven above or on earth beneath” (1 Kings 8:23). And King David began a prayer in his old age “Blessed are you O Lord GOD of Israel our father forever and ever. Yours O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty….” 1 Chron 29: 11 & 12.
There are Ten preconditions for our prayer-of-gratitude to have power. These are:
cannot approach the Father GOD except through the Son, JESUS CHRIST. In his first epistle to Timothy, the apostle
Paul wrote “For there is one GOD, and one mediator also between GOD and men, the man CHRIST JESUS” (1 Tim. 2:5). A personal
relationship with JESUS CHRIST is essential before anyone can communicate with
- We have to have faith and believe that he exists.
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to GOD must
believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Ref:
GOD’s thoughts and will is
important because our prayers and requests will only be answered if they are in
line with His will. We can gain knowledge of GOD’s will by studying the
Scripture and by asking GOD in prayer for wisdom and discernment.
on the Lord – His majesty, glory, goodness, faithfulness, and love for you.
Daily meditation can among other things draw us closer to GOD and fill your
heart and soul with peace.
is essential if our prayers are to have power. Arrogance is a sin in the eyes
of GOD and a roadblock to communication with Him. An arrogant person may pray
but his or her prayer will lack power. GOD favors the humble. 1 Peter 5:5 says
“and all of you, cloth yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD is
opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
- Let go of anger and turn it over to GOD. Anger is a very destructive emotion and a barrier to prayer. Being unforgiving and angry are roadblocks to access to GOD. Learn to forgive and recognize that a forgiving spirit is at peace with GOD.
- Let go of jealousy and thank GOD for the good fortune of others. Jealousy is a form of idolatry and is a barrier to communication with Holy GOD.
must Approach GOD with a pure heart having confessed any known sin. Harboring
any sin not confessed will be a barrier and our prayer-of-gratitude will lack
others especially fellow believers. Jesus commanded us to love one another. The
apostle John said, “If GOD so loved us, we ought to love one another. No one
has seen GOD at any time. If we love one another, GOD abides in us, and His
love has been perfected in us” 1 John 11 -12.
pays off because of GOD’s love for us. So “stay the course” and be persistent
with your petitions to GOD.
are a number of examples of effective prayer in the Bible. The most familiar
is, of course, the Lord’s Prayer. There are several in Psalms and in the Apostle
Paul’s epistles. Three chapters that I like are the 23rd and 139th
Psalm and the 1st chapter of Colossians verses 9 through 12.
All of our prayers should be prayers-of-gratitude no matter what adversity or challenge we may be facing at the time. Our GOD is an awesome GOD. He knew us from the beginning of time and loves us without limits and is eternal. Such love is difficult for us to comprehend. But all we have to do is accept it and be grateful for it.
